Reflection ESSAY 2: It's a visual world/// Reading Visual Text is kind of like reading visuals as language.

1) I have done visual analysis but not visual analysis essays. The process for the visual analysis was just looking at a picture and try to interpret it meaning bases on the context. The visual analysis essay was more in depth and required more analysis and interpretation of the image. The experiences for interpreting the visual was similar however, the essay was much more in depth. 2)The assignment was straightforward, I feel. The questions that we came up with in class helped in the process of writing. The questions served as a basic guide or outline. It was daunting to write three pages about a visual analysis but the questions were a simple guideline. 3) The most difficult part of this essay was knowing how to phrases words that meant the same thing. For my visual there seemed to be a lot of repetition of the explanations. I got through this by re-visiting my visual and  observing the surroundings of it to see what I could include. 4) This essay did not dramatically chang...

"The Art of Manipulating the Masses" by Ammar Alsharif

In the article "Advertising: The Art of Manipulating the Masses" by Ammar Alsharif, Alsharif discusses the ways we as customers get manipulated by companies that just want to make a profit. The three ways they manipulate customers is using influencers to endorse their products. Second, use women as "sex objects" for sexual appeal. Lastly, corporations will manipulate customers by displaying their ads everywhere. Alsharif warns the readers to be aware of the advertisements. Corporations also use ads that connect with our emotions. This relates to my image because the ad for the drinks has very bright colors. Bright colors are usually associated with warm and happy emotions. In contrast to darker colors where they promote more gloomy emotions. https://medium.com/flames-of-diablo/advertising-the-art-of-manipulating-the-masses-f4337a4d9898

Habits "Exploring" Q/D #8

"The idea behind all this preplanning is to protect you from getting lost while mucking about in the endless thicket of information that's out there. That seems sensible if you think research...confirming result. That is, when this approach is followed, it's no accident that the end results are unsurprising;the whole point of this approach to doing research is that there will be no surprises!"(75) This quote got me thinking, if research was meant so that there will be no surprises, then what is the purpose of doing research if you know the outcome. It seems like a waste of time. On the other hand, the reading introduces the idea of "going down a rabbit hole". This is the idea that when you research about a topic, it prompts you to want to research related topics. In my opinion, everyone should know about this idea. Researching about a topic that leads to another will result in unpredicted findings that can help the person doing the researching grow as a pe...

Two Article Sandwich

Yin eyes a topic reoccurring in the novel "Hundred Secret Senses" by Amy Tan. In the first article, it gave an explanation of what yin eyes are.  The author states,  "Yin Yang Eyes refer to those who can see into the spiritual world and can converse with spirits ".  As the quote mentions, people, like Olivia and Kwan possess yin eyes giving them the ability to communicate with spirits. However, in the second article, "Yin Yang Eyes Meaning", the author associates yin yang eyes with personality traits. For instance "Some would say that these kinds of people are emotionally unbalanced..." in addition to, "The good thing about this is when you cross these people it can take quite a bit for them to truly to be mad or to write you off". Relating this to Kwan, in the beginning of the story, Kwan was sent to a mental hospital because of Olivia. However, Kwan was not angry with Olivia. In the novel Olivia talks about all the negative things s...
